Market Garden Worker Role
Abercorn Farm are seeking an experienced Market Garden Worker to join their team from May to December 2026, with the potential for this to become a permanent role in 2027 with additional responsibilities.
The successful candidate will be working alongside the Farm Manager to help with managing the day-to-day operations of the 2-acre market garden.
Abercorn Farm is a 2 acre regenerative no-till/minimum tillage market garden based on the grounds of Belmont Demense, Bray, Co.Wicklow. Produce is grown year-round for restaurants in Dublin and Wicklow and a 50 household CSA.
The Market Garden Worker job will entail the following:
Executing the crop plan throughout the market garden.
Utilising the principles of no-till/minimum tillage to grow the produce.
Maintaining and cultivating the market garden and ensuring all infrastructure (polytunnels, irrigation etc) is in good working order.
Harvesting crops for orders.
Direct seeding crops using a Jang Seeder and transplanting crops by hand.
The ideal candidate should have the following experience/education:
Experience working on a vegetable farm or extensive experience growing their own vegetables. A third level qualification OR apprenticeship served in horticulture is preferable but not required.
A knowledge of a variety of growing styles e.g. No dig, minimum tillage, field scale.
Knowledge of the principles of no-dig market gardening and ideally the techniques of Elliot Coleman and/or Jean-Martin Fortier.
Knowledge of and passion for biodiversity and ecology.
Skills / Characteristics require:
A passion for organic, regenerative and sustainable agriculture.
Hard working and attention to detail.
A good communicator.
An open mind, a willingness and enthusiasm to learn new skills.
A passion and ambition to grow high quality, organic food, and a desire to feed people.
Enthusiasm to learn and develop as a grower.
Ability to keep moving and prioritise tasks in a very busy schedule with long days. We are a labour intensive farm, so physical fitness is a must.
A full clean driving licence is a big plus and probably essential to get to the farm each day as there is limited public transport.
